More info about China rugs : China has a long and outstanding rug tradition. The art of rug making here dates back to the 15th century. The designs and patterns were originally inspired by Chinese porcelain, landscapes, majestic dragons and other religious symbols. The patterns in Chinese rugs are generally cut in relief, which gives them the characteristic three-dimensional appearance for which they are famous. Chinese rugs consist of soft wool and have a relatively thick and dense pile. They are very strong and robust while also very soft and pleasant to walk on. In China there are also more exclusive silk rugs, woven entirely from silk. These carpets are extremely rare on the market and sometimes even contain elements made from pure gold threads. Chinese silk rugs have a very high knot density and are largely inspired by the patterns of ancient rug art.
