Rare and original metal nameplate from General Electric, Schenectady, New York, manufactured for the U.S. Navy in October 1942. The plate lists among other things: U.S. Navy – Bureau of Ships, General Electric, Schenectady, N.Y., U.S.A. Date of Manufacture: OCT. 1942 Ship Number: DE-85, Turbine Number: 64362 Technical data of the turbine, including rotational speed and steam specifications. DE-85 was an American Buckley-class Destroyer Escort and was later transferred to the Royal Navy as HMS Dakins (K550). The ship ran aground off the Belgian coast on a mine on 25 December 1944 and was ultimately considered lost. In 1947 the ship was sold in the Netherlands for scrapping. The plate is a particularly tangible World War II object with a direct connection to a specific warship. Many photos added so that the condition can be assessed properly. Photos are part of the description. The plate is very carefully packed, registered, and insured, shipped with a track and trace code. See also my other lots and possibly save on shipping costs. Will not be shipped to the United States. Shipyard plaque
