Orville Wright Aviation Autobiography TLS

Typed letter signed by Orville Wright, dated October 26, 1927, on his personal Dayton, Ohio letterhead and addressed to editor Charles B. Driscoll. Wright discusses proposals for an autobiography or biography and explains his intention instead to write a history of the development of the Wright brothers' first powered flying machine, including their laboratory work and experiments in gliding and soaring. He states his desire to produce a "true and authoritative record" that future writers could use, and also references his controversy with the Smithsonian. An excellent content letter offering Wright's own perspective on documenting the history of the invention and development of powered flight. Estimate $300 - $500
