About the artist: Osvaldo Salas (1914-1992) is a celebrated Cuban press photographer, particularly known for immortalizing the Cuban revolution and its leading figures. Born in Havana, he moved to New York at age fourteen. He began his career as a commercial and press photographer, opening a studio in Manhattan from which he photographed sports, entertainment, and cinema personalities (such as Marilyn Monroe, Rocky Marciano, or Joe DiMaggio). In 1955, he met Fidel Castro during Castro’s visit to New York, a turning point in his life. Following the 1959 revolution, he returned to Cuba with his son Roberto Salas (also a photographer). He became the director of photography at the revolutionary newspaper Revolución, and later worked for the daily Granma. He is remembered for his reportage and iconic portraits of prominent Cuban and international figures, notably Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Ernest Hemingway, and the Cuban National Ballet. His work is today regarded as a major visual testimony of Cuban history and heritage of the 20th century. Che Guevara #Salas #Osvaldo Salas Revolutio
