Otto Macerini (1927-2022) - Senza Titolo 1966 (No Reserve)

Otto Macerini (1927–2022) – Untitled (Face), 1966 Oil on canvas Dimensions: 20 × 30 cm Date of realization: February 6, 1966 Catalog number: 72 Original painting directly from the artist's family archive. The work belongs to a group of five paintings depicting faces, created by Otto Macerini between 1965 and 1966, testimony to a phase of painting research characterized by a particular interest in the human figure and its interpretation through synthetic forms and color fields. In this painting the face emerges from an essential composition, built through delicate tones and measured contrasts. The facial features are reduced to the essential, while the painting matter and the layering of brushstrokes give the surface a remarkable visual presence. The frontal facing of the figure and the simplification of the features give the image an intense and gathered character, in which the depiction of the face accompanies a search for form, color, and the texture of the painting surface. Created in February 1966, the painting documents a moment in Macerini's artistic research in the late 1960s, when interest in the figure expressed itself through a personal language, free from purely naturalistic representation. The work is identified with number 72 in the family archive catalog. A small-format original painting, part of a group of works devoted to the study of the face and the artist's expressive exploration.
