OVID. Letters from Lovers. The Heroides. Paris, Éditions René Kieffer, 1919. Quarto, purple morocco leather, with a radiating design of gilded arrows featuring black tips and fletching; on the front cover, the title is set in circular palladium-style lettering surrounding a masked face, with the inner frame adorned with a gilded border, black silk endpapers and lining, gilt headband, untrimmed, cover and spine, slipcase (René Kieffer). Illustrations by Manuel Orazi, woodcuts by Perrichon. Printed in an edition of 250 copies; this one is one of 20 head copies on shaped Japanese paper with a suite on China paper, two suites on Japanese paper—one with a background and the other without—and an original drawing by the illustrator. Spine faded.
