Impressive and heavily built pair of antique French 3-light wall candleholders (appliques) in cast and fire-gilded bronze, made in France around 1890–1910 in the elegant Louis XVI style (Louis Seize). Stijl & Ornamentiek This set of wall appliques is designed with an eye for historical precision and refinement. The central shaft is cleanly fluted and crowned by a classical detailed vase/urn with handles. From the center, three gracefully curved light arms fan out, richly decorated with acanthus leaves, floral motifs, and hanging garlands. The bottom of the wall plate tapers to a point and is finished with a refined acanthus acroterion. Ambacht, Vergulding & Details Vuurverguld brons (Ormolu): The candelabras retain their original, authentic fire-gilding. In the deeper areas (such as around the garlands and vase details) the clear golden glow is beautifully preserved. On the higher, protruding parts the gold shows a very subtle, characteristic wear from polishing and handling over the decades, allowing the warm bronze color to show through locally. Traditioneel zandgietwerk: The hollow back reveals the grainy texture of high-quality French sand casting (fonte de sable). Montage & Nummering: The pieces are artisanally assembled with authentic square nuts and tie rods. On the back of both candelabras is stamped/attached the historic inventory/mold number "195", confirming their original togetherness as a pair. Massieve kwaliteit: With a weight of about 1.8 kg per candleholder, this is a solid, heavy casting of top quality. The drip cups are around the edges provided with the original holes for optionally attaching crystal pendeloques/pampilles to taste. Conditie The appliques are in very nice, original antique condition with a layered patina and minimal signs of oxidation (verdigris) on the inside/back, appropriate for an age of more than 110 years. All mounts are sturdy and the light arms stand true.
