Pablo Palazuelo (1915-2007) - Untitled

Pablo Palazuelo (1915–2007) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, and printmaker, widely regarded as one of the great masters of geometric abstraction in the 20th century. Initially trained in architecture, he redirected his career toward the visual arts, developing a unique style dubbed "transgeometría" (transgeometry), a visual investigation focused on rhythm, line, and the hidden patterns of nature. Biography and Key Career: • Formation and Paris: After his early studies in architecture in Madrid and the United Kingdom, he moved to Paris in 1948 on a government scholarship. There he distanced himself from the Franco regime and came into direct contact with the European abstract vanguards. • Recognitions: Throughout his career he received prestigious awards, such as the Kandinsky Prize in 1952, the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts in 1982, the National Prize for Plastic Arts, and the Velázquez Prize in 2004. • Final years: He definitively returned to Spain in 1969. He spent his last decades working tirelessly in his workshop until his death in Galapagar, Madrid, in October 2007.
