Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) is generally regarded as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, who reshaped the course of modern art through his relentless innovation and creativity. From co-founding Cubism with Georges Braque to exploring the emotional depths of Surrealism, Picasso's career spanned more than seven decades, during which he produced masterpieces that remain iconic in both the art world and popular culture. His work, such as the vibrant and optimistic Bouquet (1958), continues to inspire artists, designers and enthusiasts. The most valued Picasso paintings come from different periods of his life: the early Pink and White periods and his groundbreaking experiments with cubism, through to his work in the years leading up to and during World War II, and into the late 1960s when he was already world-famous. Central to Picasso's oeuvre are portraits of his diverse muses: Marie-Thérèse Walter, Dora Maar, Françoise Gilot and Jacqueline Roque, each of whom had a series of intricate affairs with the artist. These portraits, ranging from sensual to tormented, are among the most recognizable in art history. An important work by Picasso is 'La Ronde de la Jeunesse' (1961), translated as 'The Round of Youth'. This piece is characterized by a lively, circular composition of dancing figures, celebrating life and vitality. The energetic brushstrokes and bright colors illustrate Picasso's later style, which often embraced a playful and expressive approach. 'La Ronde de la Jeunesse' captures the joy and movement of youth, and demonstrates Picasso's ability to convey dynamic scenes with bold and simplified forms. This work stands as evidence of his ongoing innovation and exploration of new artistic expressions throughout his career. Picasso's works dominate the art market, with many astronomical prices paid at auction: 'Les Femmes d'Alger (Version O)' (1955) sold for a record $179.4 million. 'Girl with a Ball of Flowers' (1905) brought in $115 million, and 'Dora Maar au Chat' (1941) achieved $95.2 million. Although these major works are often reserved for elite collectors, authorized offset lithographs of pieces such as Bouquet allow art lovers to own a piece of Picasso's legacy.
