Pair of 1870 Ship Portraits

Maltese school. A pair of watercolour ship portraits in excellent condition and strong colour, the first entitled "Brig Niagara Capt William F Hann Enterin(sic) Malta Harboeur(sic) 1870" with the approaching ship being greeted by several small sailboats on a calm blue sea. The other is entitled "Brig Niagara Capt William F Hann Leaving Malta Harbour 1870" and shows the ship with shortened sails leaving port in choppy seas. Additional information and gallery label, verso. Attributed on the back to Gaetano Esposito (1858-1911) who worked in Malta and Bologna 1884-1895. Professionally framed and mounted. Labelled, with Parker Galleries, London, and catalogue information from Bourne Auction Gallery in Hyannis, Massachusetts 1985, on both paintings.
