Pair of French Empire style armchairs dating from the late 19th century, crafted in mahogany with gently curved caned backs and shaped upholstered seats. The frames are embellished with finely cast ormolu mounts, including a neoclassical crest ornament and decorative corner mounts to the seat rails, reflecting the classical vocabulary associated with the Empire style. The open arms terminate in gracefully curved supports, while the chairs stand on square tapering legs, emphasizing their balanced proportions and architectural lines. The warm patina of the wood, together with the caned backs, ormolu mounts, and upholstered seats, enhances their decorative appeal. Well suited for a formal interior, they retain the craftsmanship and character expected of fine French furniture of the period.
