Pair of Miniature Iberian Bronze Votive Figures

Iberia, modern day Spain or P{ortugal. A pair of diminutive cast bronze devotees, both miniature in scale and reduced to the essentials of stance and gesture. The taller wears a knee-length tunic, his left hand pressed to his chest as though sealing a pledge, his right hanging loose at his side, the head tipped slightly upward toward whatever he addressed. His companion, more petite and clad in a long skirt or dress, extends both arms outward with hands brought together in the posture of presenting an offering. Facial features are summary, the bodies modeled in flattened planes, and surfaces carry a mottled green and earthen patina. Each terminates below the feet in an integral tang, indicating that the figures were once socketed into a base, a standard, or a larger composite fitting, likely as votive dedications. Item # 204611
