Ca. AD 1800 - 1900 A pair of miniature paintings in opaque watercolours and ink on paper, each with an illustrated scene accompanied by calligraphic panels. From left to right: a courtly gathering depicting a seated nobleman attended by figures in colourful robes beneath a flowering tree, with rocky hills in the background, the miniature enclosed by lines of nasta'liq script with red and gold embellishments and floral ornament in the margins; and a polo match depicting mounted noblemen pursuing a ball with long mallets against a rocky landscape, the scene framed by panels of script with further diagonal inscriptions in the margins. Both mounted and framed. Size: 285-315mm x 210-250mm; Weight: 1.16kg Provenance: Private Collection of American Gentleman in London, since 1970s.
