Reed and Barton pair of silver-plated spoons, featuring a double-struck fiddle-thread style handle terminating in a double scroll motif. The face of each handle is engraved S S Governor Cobb in an italicized serif font. The reverse of the handles contains several stamped marks, including a rectangular cartouche reading "Pat Appld for, the maker name Reed and Barton" in block capitals, a circled lowercase c, the number 4, and the characters XX. The SS Governor Cobb was launched in 1906 as the first turbine-powered merchant ship built in the United States and later served as the USS Cobb for the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. These spoons were part of the onboard dining service.
