Superb and important paper opener (letter opener) from the Art Nouveau era (Circa 1900), made in solid brass (brass alloy) of very fine craftsmanship, heavy and perfectly balanced. The handle is magnificently sculpted in high relief. It represents a feminine allegory (nymph) with long flowing hair that organically blends along the blade. The face emerges from a delicate naturalistic decor of stems and fuchsias bells, an iconic Belle Époque theme. Notable details for collectors: • Artist's monogram: Presence of a workshop or founder mark engraved in intaglio on the upper first third of the blade. The stylized, interlaced letters evoke a monogram typical of certain art workshops of the period). • "Grand Model" format: Impressive and heavy piece (31 cm for 314 grams), which also served as a paperweight on the grand writing desks of the era. • Technique & Patina: Raw monobloc casting with a flat reverse showing the artisanal work of the time. Magnificent original contrasts due to handling, preserving a beautiful old patina. Dimensions & Characteristics: • Length: 31 cm • Weight: 320 grams • Material: Solid brass (brass alloy) • Era: Circa 1900 (Art Nouveau) • Origin: France / Western Europe Condition: Excellent period condition. Very beautiful patina of use with gilded highlights on the reliefs, enhanced by natural oxidation in the recesses that emphasizes the finesse of the chasing (see photos).
