Beautiful, authentic Dutch silver letter opener in excellent condition. The letter opener’s top is beautifully decorated with a highly detailed openwork sailing ship (a three-masted/VOC ship), resting on an elegantly worked intermediate section with dolphins/volutes. This piece was manufactured by the famed Zilverfabriek H. Hooijkaas from Schoonhoven, a silversmith renowned worldwide for its high-quality Dutch standard and novelty silver. The blade’s rear side is fully and clearly hallmarked with the official Dutch silver marks: 33.2 grams see photo • Master mark H•H: H.
