Note: This Lot is accompanied by a Spanierman Gallery, LLC, New York, NY invoice from 2000 and a 2016 appraisal from William A. Karges Fine Art, Carmel, CA. Approximate dimensions: Sight: 15 1/4 x 11 in. (38.7 x 27.9 cm.) Frame: 26 x 22 x 1 3/8 in. (66 x 55.9 x 3.5 cm.) Provenance: Private Collection, Hickory, NC, purchased from the former in 2000; Spanierman Gallery, LLC, New York, NY.Artist Bio: French artist Paul De Longpre began his career at an early age, painting flowers on fans at a Paris company when he was only 12. By the time he moved to New York in 1890, his name was known and respected in the art world. De Longpre's paintings of floral arrangements were primarily done in watercolor, and he had a particular fondness for roses. He made sure to include intricate details in his floral pieces, adding bees and using light strokes to bring out the delicate feel of the petals. In 1898, he built a large home in Los Angeles, and the gardens contained over 4,000 rose bushes.
