Condition: Very good Technique: C-print / digital print Authentic: Yes, see stamp on the back by Groninger Museum Edition: This photo was issued by the Groninger Museum in 1996, around which Paul Huf (and Dick Bruna) organized an exhibition titled 'The Smell of Success'. "The Smell of Success" was a special, grandly staged exhibition at the Groninger Museum in 1996 (from June 29 to September 1). The exhibition and the accompanying publications revolved around the unique combination of two Dutch icons: photographer Paul Huf and designer/illustrator Dick Bruna. The exhibition showcased the cross-pollination between Paul Huf's commercial/modern photography and the minimalist graphic design of Dick Bruna (best known for Miffy). Both had left a huge imprint on Dutch visual culture in the preceding decades (as Huf did with his iconic record sleeves, Grolsch campaigns, Philips, KLM, Magriet, Avenue, King Peppermint, and Playboy). Historical & Artistic Context - Photographer: shot by the legendary Dutch photographer Paul Huf Jr. - Client: Created as an advertising and fashion photo for the innovative magazine Romance. - People in the photo: The two men in the composition are the famous Dutch choreographer and dancer Hans van Manen and dancer Gérard le Maître. Their dynamic ballet and dance poses break with the traditional, static fashion pose of the time. The four standing women are the then-known models Margereth, Vicka, Evelyn, and Rita. Here are 20 important international and Dutch examples, influences, and related artists of Paul Huf: Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Edward Steichen, Cecil Beaton, Horst P. Horst, George Hoyningen-Huene, Louise Dahl-Wolfe, Man Ray, Willy Maywald, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Jacques Henri Lartigue, Ad Windig, Maria Austria, Carel Willink, Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin, David Bailey, Bert Stern, Lord Snowdon (Antony Armstrong-Jones), Norman Parkinson.
