Paul Huf (1924 -2002) - Winfield Cigarettes (New York, 1957)

This is an iconic Dutch advertising photo from the 1950s. It is an advertising photo by photographer Paul Huf Jr. for Winfield Cigarettes (New York, 1957). Photographer: Paul Huf Paul Huf (1924 -2002) Title: Winfield Cigarettes (New York, 1957) Dimensions: 34 x 24 cm Original: the original photo was issued in 1957; this beautiful edition is from 1996. Condition: Very good Technique: C-print / digital print Authentic: Yes, see the back stamp by the Groninger Museum Edition: This photo was issued by the Groninger Museum in 1996, around which Paul Huf (and Dick Bruna) a exhibition was organized called 'The Smell of Success'. "The Smell of Success" was a special, grandly staged exhibition at the Groninger Museum in 1996 (from June 29 to September 1). The exhibition and the accompanying publications focused on the unique combination of two Dutch icons: photographer Paul Huf and designer/illustrator Dick Bruna. The exhibition showcased the cross-pollination between Paul Huf's commercial/modern photography and Dick Bruna's minimalist graphic design (known from Miffy). Both had, in the preceding decades, left a huge imprint on Dutch visual culture (as Huf did with his iconic album covers, Grolsch campaigns, Philips, KLM, Margriet, Avenue, King Peppermint and Playboy). Historical & Artistic Context - Photographer: Photographed by the legendary Dutch photographer Paul Huf Jr. - Client: Created as an advertisement and fashion photo for the innovative magazine Romance. - People in the photo: The two men in the composition are the famous Dutch choreographer and dancer Hans van Manen and dancer Gérard le Maître. Their dynamic ballet and dance poses break with the traditional, static fashion pose of that era. The four posing women are the then-famous models Margereth, Vicka, Evelyn and Rita. Here are 20 important international and Dutch influences and related artists of Paul Huf: Irving Penn Richard Avedon Edward Steichen Cecil Beaton Horst P.
