All auctions / Miscellaneous / Paul Rowette (1955) - Dame met waaier
This elegant portrait shows a stylishly dressed woman with a dark fan, rendered in a loose and expressive painting style. The artist combines a fairly finely worked face with bold, visible brushstrokes in the clothing, hair, and background. Soft shades of cream, pink and lilac alternate with accents of turquoise, green and dark purple, giving the portrait a lively and almost impressionistic feel. The twisted pose, the direct gaze of the woman, and the striking fan create a sense of movement and elegance, while the loose paint handling gives the work a contemporary character. Paul Rowette is an artist who specializes in figurative painting and portraits. His work is characterized by a combination of recognizable, carefully observed figures and a free, painterly touch. Rather than delineating every detail precisely, he uses loose brushstrokes and subtle color accents to suggest light, movement, and mood. Especially in his portraits, the emphasis lies on the model's expression and posture, with refined faces paired with more expressive-painted clothing and backgrounds. This results in an appealing interplay between classical portraiture and a modern, impressionistic painting technique. Dimensions: 60 x 50 cm Dimensions with frame: 84 x 74 cm Signed lower left Viewing by appointment, of course.
