Paulo Ghiglia (1905-1979) - Vaso di rose

Beautiful work by painter Ghiglia Paulo Ghiglia (Florence, March 5, 1905 – Rome, November 19, 1979) painted with the pastel on cardboard technique in good condition. The frame is original from the period and has its protective glass. Paulo Ghiglia (Florence, March 5, 1905 – Rome, November 19, 1979) was an Italian painter. He began to paint very young with his father and master Oscar; at twenty he left the family home and moved to La Verna, where he lived for about five years. He debuted in Milan in 1929 at the Pesaro Gallery together with his father Oscar and his brother Valentino, also a painter. In 1931 he was at the first Quadriennale of Rome: thanks to Petrolini, his close friend, he was introduced to the capital, where the period of portraits began. He stayed in Paris where he portrayed Joséphine Baker. He returned to Rome, which would remain, together with Florence, Livorno and La Verna, the place of greatest inspiration; in the forties and fifties his production focused on portraits of illustrious people, of monkeys, and of Isa Miranda. In the sixties he stayed for a long time in California, in Los Angeles and San Francisco, portraying the Hollywood film world; at the end of the decade he moved again to La Verna, in Tuscany, where a new painting in the impressionist direction brought him to major public exhibitions, including the one in Florence in 1973 at Palazzo Strozzi, in Rome at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni of the Quadriennale, and in 1975 in Assisi with a large exhibition on Saint Francis. His works are in various museums around the world, from the Uffizi, with two self-portraits, to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Milanese La Scala Museum, the public Ricci Oddi collection in Piacenza, the Modern Art Museum of Livorno, the Palazzo Pitti Modern Art Gallery, the Balzan Foundation, the Carima Foundation.
