Pedro Creixams (1893-1965) - The concert

Pere (Pedro) Creixams, born in Barcelona 9 November 1893 was a Spanish painter and illustrator. Créixams arrived in Paris in 1917, Montparnasse, at a difficult time both historically and socially and even more so as a foreigner. He met the writer Florent Fels. He introduced him to Blaise Cendrars, Max Jacob, André Malraux, Raymond Radiguet, André Salmon and the painter Amedeo Modigliani. He met also Marie Lebourg, still called ‘Madeleine’ by Créixams and all their friends. He married her on 4 October 1919 at the town hall in Rouen, her home town. Creixams started painting under the guidance of the painter Othon Friesz, and this was the time of his first successes. He exhibited in 1921 at the Café du Parnasse (Les Cent du Parnasse exhibited at the café) and at the Nude Exhibition at the Galerie Montaigne in Paris. His portraits of women were marked by the style of the illustrious representative of the École de Paris, Amedeo Modigliani. Creixams was introduced to the famous Parisian art dealer Paul Guillaume en in 1925 to Pierre Loeb, the famous Pierre Loeb Gallery. Creixams' paintings were exhibited alongside those of André Derain, Pablo Picasso, Maurice de Vlaminck, Henri Matisse and Amedeo Modigliani and with the 20th century's most influential artists (Braque, Klee, Chirico, Derain, Dufy, Gromaire, Léger, Miro, Pascin, Soutine, Masson, Man Ray, etc.) from 1927 to 1963. In painting, he turned to his Spanish ancestors, El Greco, Francisco de Goya and Diego Velasquez, to affirm their artistic heritage. His admiration for Pablo Picasso was also felt in his work of the 1920s, and he learned a lesson from the painter of the destitute, acrobats and guitarists. The Catalan de Montmartre (how he was called) died the 5th of March 1965 in Barcelona This painting is signed: Creixams Creixams is mentioned extensively in the dictionary Benezit The painting is in good condition.
