There are occasions when subtle tones and understated symbols are most appropriate. And then there are occasions when joy wants to burst forth and share your happiness with the world, openly and without false modesty. This necklace is the perfect choice for the latter occasions, for it does not hide itself but instead displays, in all its splendor and beauty, the symbol of love: a large heart made of lustrous onyx, framed by shimmering pearls, and set in gold. The piece of jewellery originates from England and was created around the turn of the last century. However, the onyx was likely added more recently to replace a lost gemstone. Typically, similar hearts from this period featured colored gemstones. As is typical for jewellery of this era, the heart can be worn in different ways: as a brooch or as a pendant on a chain. To do this, the brooch clasp can be unscrewed, and a pendant loop can be attached to the bow above the heart. We discovered the heart with its bow in London. Our goldsmiths added the pendant loop.
