Bronze Bird-Shaped Incense Burner (Koro) in Bird Form - Japan - Late Meiji Period (ca. 1900) Object Description: Elegant and authentic animal incense burner (koro) in patinated bronze, depicting a finely carved bird perched on a rock. Japanese work from the late Meiji era (ca. 1890-1910). The back of the bird is removable/articulated, opening to an interior receptacle designed to hold the incense. The interior shows a black patina and traces of original soot, evidence of prior use. The feather details and the rocky texture of the base are very well rendered. Unmarked model, characteristic of high-quality export pieces of this period. • Period: Late Meiji (1868-1912) • Material: Bronze / Copper alloy • Origin: Japan • Dimensions: Height: 16 cm • Condition: Good overall condition, beautiful original patina.
