PETER PONTIAC — Underground Comic & Rock Art Diptych (1990–1995) — Muziek Expres & Het Griekse Eiland Lot Title / Headline: Peter Pontiac (1951–2015) – Seminal 2-Piece Graphic Master Diptych: Rare Double-Sided "Jimi Hendrix" (69x99 cm, 1990) & "Korfoe / De Vliegende Fiets" (42x55 cm, 1995) – Mint / Archive State Description: An extraordinary two-piece master diptych uniting the graphic genius of the late Peter Pontiac (Peter Pollmann, 1951–2015), the undisputed pioneer of Dutch underground comics, rock poster illustration, and Lowbrow art. This collection pairs Pontiac’s monumental, psychedelic rock tribute to guitar icon Jimi Hendrix with his humorous, intensely detailed Mediterranean travel epic: • The Two Included Masterworks: Peter Pontiac – "Jimi Hendrix: Meet You in the Next World" (1990) Commissioned for Muziek Expres and produced under "a Low Brow Lambiek / Pontiac Prod. 75/86 1990". Rare Double-Sided Giant Art Poster (69 x 99 cm): • Front: A sci-fi pop fantasy featuring Jimi Hendrix in flared psychedelic trousers and a floral shirt, shredding his Fender Stratocaster atop a futuristic hovercraft alongside a striking blue alien glider. The background opens into a dramatic coastline with an erupting volcano and a burning guitar over the sea. Anchored by Pontiac's signature box (lower left) and the "ME" publisher mark (lower right). • Reverse: A swirling, cosmic spacescape with exploding liquid neon-pink solar flares, deep blue galaxies, a ringed Saturn-like planet, and organic celestial typography. Medium: Heavyweight glossy photographic art stock with saturated inks. Peter Pontiac – "Korfoe & Muizeneiland" / "Babyboombicycling en de Vliegende Fiets" (1995) Commissioned in 1995 by Het Griekse Eiland Fietsvakanties. Original Promotional Art Print (42 x 55 cm): • An intricate "Wimmelbilder"-style panoramic vista of Corfu and Mouse Island (Pontikonisi). Densely populated by hundreds of comical pink holidaymaker figures cycling, sunbathing, dining, and exploring ancient ruins. • Illustrated with airborne bicycles, a passenger plane, and a miniature Eiffel Tower atop the mountain peak. • Lower left features an antique Greek scroll plaque titled "KORFOE & MUIZENEILAND (SCHAAL 1: VEEL)" and signed "by PONTIAC '95". Medium: Original high-contrast offset lithograph on premium heavy matte art paper. • Artistic Provenance & Importance: Both pieces showcase the two distinct creative poles of Pontiac’s celebrated career: raw, counter-culture psychedelic rock poster design and masterful comic narrative hatching. Technical Specifications: • Artist: Peter Pontiac (Peter Pollmann, 1951–2015) • Titles: "Jimi Hendrix – Meet You in the Next World" (1990) "Korfoe & Muizeneiland – De Vliegende Fiets" (1995) • Publishers: Muziek Expres / Lambiek / Pontiac Prod. & Het Griekse Eiland • Quantity: Complete Set of 2 Works (Diptych) • Technique: Hendrix: Original double-sided lithograph on premium glossy stock Corfu: Original offset lithograph on heavy matte art paper • Dimensions: Hendrix: 69 x 99 cm Corfu: 42 x 55 cm • Condition: Mint (Archive State) Condition Report: • Sourced directly from flat, uncirculated distributor portfolio storage; never framed, taped, or hung. • Inks and colors remain fully saturated, deep, and brilliant with zero sunning or UV deterioration. • Pristine sheet surfaces, straight borders, and sharp 90-degree corners.
