Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. $50 1902 Date Back. Fr. 669. The Market

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. $50 1902 Date Back. Fr. 669. The Market Street NB. Charter #3684. PMG Choice Very Fine 35 EPQ. Misalignment Error. Already a superb note for the grade assigned. This moderately circulated Series of 1902 $50 Date Back issued by the Market Street National Bank of Philadelphia (Charter# 3684) before 1924 is more than just a type note or a numerical grade assigned by PMG. Instead, bidders must look to the impression of the back design to understand what makes this note special. Recognized as an error by virtue of a comment which states "First Print Misaligned," one may notice that the back impression is askew with part of the engraved design missing along the bottom margin while the face impression remains neatly centered. That error is nonetheless magnified in its significance by evident selvage seen in part of the top margin alongside the initials of various tradesmen employed by the BEP when this note was printed making this something sure to please the studious collector of National Bank Notes who enjoys more esoteric considerations rather than simple geography. PMG comments "First Print Misaligned." Estimate: $2,000 - $3,000. Click here for certification details from PMG.
