PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Manila Mint. Isabel II. PCGS Genuine--Holed, VF Details; Countermark: EF Details. KM-118; Basso-56; PNM#6-108; PNM#16-237; PNM#21-VIII-61; Cacho-Unlisted; Gil-5-4-3-III. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834 and suppressed 31 March 1837 (by decree of 1 February 1836). Countermark: Type VI; crowned Y.II. within circular incuse. Applied to the obverse of an 1817-Zs AG Mexico War of Independence 8 Reales (KM-111.5). This charmingly crude issue displays rich mottled slate patina with areas of lighter coloration. The countermark is boldly applied with clear diagnostics, making attribution an easy venture, on a decently preserved host. A hole from long ago is noticed at 12 o'clock, accounting for the details designation, now toned over matching the rest of the coin. Overall a presentable example of this VERY RARE host that is sure to see spirited bidding from advanced collectors. Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
