PHILIPPINES. Spanish-American War. Colorado Volunteers War Service Bronze Medal, 1899. ABOUT UNCIRCULATED. Honeycutt-61-12. Diameter: 32.8 mm. By H. Otto F. Obverse: Allegorical figures, eagle with spread wings in front, soldiers marching left below, legend around "DULCE ET DECORUM ES PRO PATRIA MORI"; Reverse: Banner inscribed "JOHN MURRAY" superimposed on the seal of Colorado, legend above "AWARDED TO". With suspension and original ribbon. A neat and interesting issue with a pleasing appearance. The ribbon is fragile, as would be expected, but is still somewhat intact. An attractive piece with lovely rich light brown patina with a slight iridescent sheen. A seldom encountered issue that is certain to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters. The recipient, Private John F. Murray, was called to duty and served in Company H of the First (1st) Colorado Infantry Regiment, U.S. Volunteers. He served under Captain Charles B. Eastman for a period of two years and was discharged 8 September 1899. Estimate: $200 - $300. Provenance: From the Dr. Earl Honeycutt Collection.
