Photochrom Zurich (XIX) - "Mendiants devant la mosquée...

Circa 1895, 22x16 cm. "Mendiants devant la mosquée Sidi Abderr" and "Maures tissant le tapis arabe", two photolithographs according to the Photochrom Zurich color process. Free and not mounted (rare). Damp stamps on the versos. Beautiful preservation of contrasts, colors, and levels of detail but corners cropped (see scans). Signed and captioned in gold letters in a cartouche at the bottom of the print. Small conservatory PR, to be enjoyed. Founded in Zurich at the end of the 19th century, Photochrom Zürich — which became Photoglob Zürich in 1895 — specialized in distributing color views obtained from black-and-white photographic negatives. Several of these prints, especially for the East and North Africa, reproduced images by travel photographers such as Félix Bonfils, whose shots served as the basis for these compositions between photography and lithography.
