Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) signed photographic authentication relating to one of his own works. The 5.5 x 10.75 inch glossy photograph reproduces a Renoir landscape with two smaller landscape studies below. Beneath the images is a handwritten French authentication statement concerning the work, dated Cagnes, January 13, 1917, and signed "Renoir," with an official Cagnes-sur-Mer ink stamp alongside. Dating from the final years of Renoir's life, when the artist was living and working at Cagnes-sur-Mer in southern France, the document records Renoir personally confirming the authenticity of artwork attributed to him. It is an unusual form of Renoir autograph material directly associated with the authentication of his own work. Encapsulated and authenticated by PSA/DNA (84231200). Estimate $3,000 - $5,000
