A singular and bold figure in early 20th-century French painting, Pierre Dumont established himself as one of the most original artists of the Rouen School. Influenced by Van Gogh and Cézanne, he develops a powerful and expressive painting, characterized by generous material, vibrant colors and a remarkable freedom of brushwork. Founder of the Groupe des XXX in 1907, then active in the Société Normande de Peinture Moderne, he actively participated in the artistic avant-garde of his time. Based in Paris, notably at the famous Bateau-Lavoir in Montmartre, he rubbed shoulders with the great figures of modernity and took part in the Or Project movement in 1912. [Note: kept as in original?] His Normandy landscapes, views of Rouen and Parisian compositions testify to an exceptional artistic temperament, at the crossroads of Fauvism, Expressionism and Cubist explorations. Today sought after for the power of his pictorial expression and the originality of his work, Pierre Dumont occupies an important place in the history of modern French painting.
