Pietro Paolo Rubens (1577-1640), Bottega di - Ritratto di carattere

Pietro Paolo Rubens, workshop of, oil on canvas 54 by 43 cm, in perfect conserved condition this portrait is surely attributable to Rubens's workshop and is a typical example of the studies that painters of the era were accustomed to perform in order to then insert them into paintings executed on a larger scale. Peter Paul Rubens, also known in Italy as Pietro Paolo Rubens (Siegen, 28 June 1577 – Antwerp, 30 May 1640), was a Flemish painter. His work, according to Giuliano Briganti, «can be considered the archetype of the 'baroque'»; for Luigi Mallé, he opened the way to the tumultuous European Baroque, particularly Nordic and French.
