Plakart - Soviet Propaganda Poster – 1990 – Lenin 120th...

Original Soviet propaganda poster – 1990 reissue by PLAKART – Lenin 120th Anniversary & Perestroika – Moscow – 43 × 55 cm This original Soviet propaganda poster is a 1990 reissue (Plakatart publishing house), specializing in political and propaganda posters in the USSR. It features a six-panel collage celebrating the 120th anniversary of Lenin's birth (April 22, 1870) and the major April dates in the Soviet calendar. --Six-panel collage composition: - Central panel: Monumental portrait of Lenin with the Perestroika slogan: “By turning to Leninism, the Party and the people draw from him the certainty of the necessity of the course toward Perestroika.” This slogan, taken from Gorbachev’s April 21, 1990, speech, illustrates the ideological reinterpretation of the end of the USSR. - Top left panel: April 7 — World Health Day, with the medical caduceus on a globe. - Top right panel: 70 years of the first Communist Saturday (April 12, 1919) — Communist Labour Day, with a red flag, Lenin and a locomotive. - Bottom left panel: April 9 — Day of the country’s Air Defence Forces (PVO), with a red star, missiles and fighter jets. - Bottom center panel: April 12 — Day of Space celebrating Gagarin’s flight (1961), with a space rocket and hands open toward the universe. - Bottom right panel: April 16 — Day of Soviet Science, with a scientist, planets and parabolic antennas. ---Historical context: 1990 is the turning year for the USSR. In March 1990, Article 6 of the Constitution (monopoly of power by the CPSU) was abolished. Gorbachev is elected President of the USSR. The Baltic republics demand independence. The economy collapses. Yet propaganda continues to work: this poster, reissued by PLAKART, is a striking testimony to late Soviet cognitive dissonance. On the one hand, it celebrates traditional pillars (Lenin, the army, space, science); on the other hand, it reinterprets Lenin as a precursor of Perestroika, thus opening the way to the end of the system he created. This poster is therefore a unique historical document: it captures the USSR at the precise moment it destroys itself by invoking its own foundations. Dimensions: 43 cm × 55 cm. Condition: See photos. Vintage poster in good condition. Colors well preserved.
