Madagascar Jasper – A Heart of Mineral Landscapes A heart carved and polished from natural Madagascar jasper, characterized by a distinctive combination of colors and patterns that traverse the stone's surface, creating broad geometric swathes bounded by slender sinuous lines. The specimen presents a solid, harmonious form, with two rounded upper lobes and a clearly defined lower tip. The polish enhances the material's dense structure and allows clear observation of the different color zones. The upper part is dominated by brick red, rust, and terracotta tones, crossed by lighter bands of salmon pink and orange. On the left side there is a wide taupe-gray area, with silvery nuances and a delicate internal texture. This surface is outlined by a thin dark red edge that follows an irregular path, separating it from the surrounding areas. On the right side there appears a large red-orange swath, partially translucent in appearance, surrounded by cream, ivory, and pale pink tones. In the lower part, the colors gradually become more subdued, alternating warm gray, beige, and fine ochre veining. One of the most interesting aspects is how the different zones meet: some transitions are gradual, while others are marked by sharp and undulating contours. The result resembles a geological cross-section, in which differently colored materials seem to occupy separate compartments. Jasper is a compact siliceous rock, generally composed of microcrystalline quartz and other mineral phases. Its numerous color varieties depend on the presence of impurities and inclusions, especially iron compounds. Red and brown tones are commonly associated with iron oxides, while gray and pale areas can reflect different compositions, structures, and concentrations of inclusions.
