PONTOS. Amisos. Orichalcum bronze (Circa 111-105 or 95-90 BC). Struck under Mithradates VI Eupator. Obv: Helmeted head of Ares right. Rev: AMI - ΣOV. Sword in sheath; SNG BM Black Sea 1164; HGC 7, 241. Weight 7.61 g. Orichalcum was a valuable golden-colored brass alloy used by Romans and Greeks to mint coins . Valued for its gold-like appearance, it was considered more valuable than copper. Will be shipped registered and insured.
