Fascinating and authentic early 20th-century German collectible doll, circa 1910–1920, found in the historic center of Venice, produced by the well-known Porzellanfabrik Mengersgereuth in Thuringia. The model is the famous PM 914, a classic example of a "Character Baby" (a baby doll with realistic newborn features). Head: Made of fine unglazed biscuit porcelain, structurally intact: no obvious hairline cracks, chipping, or prior restorations on the face. On the back of the head the original factory mark is clearly visible and legible: "P.M. 914". Facial features are finely hand-painted, with slightly flushed cheeks, an open mouth molded to show the two typical original upper porcelain teeth and the tongue. Upper and lower lashes painted fanwise. Glass blue eyes of the lazy/tilt type (sleep eyes). The internal mechanism is present. Classic five-piece composition baby body with bent limbs. Original wig (or period wig) with real hair, currently partially detached from the head, underlying hair is light blonde. There is only a lace border/collar of vintage lace and fabric around the neck. The doll lacks the complete outfit. The composition body is solid and original, but shows widespread and noticeable signs of age, including detachments of the superficial painted finish, stains, and wear due to age (particularly visible on hands, arms, and legs). The doll is sold in the condition in which it is found (as is), ideal as a base for conservative restoration or for collectors who appreciate pieces left in their original patina. Height 28 cm
