Post-medieval - Very rare jug with decoration in the High...

A fairly rare example of a Dutch lead-glazed jug dating from the early 17th century. This pitcher has a very beautiful decorative ornamentation, featuring cream-colored relief S‑shapes on the shoulder with green dots. Dutch lead-glazed pottery is one of the rarest ceramics known, especially in a condition where it is complete. It is extremely rare to find it in complete condition; most of the time parts are missing. In addition to the fact that Dutch lead glaze is rare, it also has a historical peculiarity: it marks a new chapter in people’s lives and a blend of cultures. This piece was sought after in the 17th century. Dutch maiolica was influenced by many cultures. The main influences were Hispano-Islamic culture and the Italian Renaissance. The globular belly rests on a small circular foot, the neck is adorned with fluting, the handle finely worked crowns a lip with a slightly pinched beak. The pitcher has undergone no restoration, which is very rare. Majolicas of that era have almost always been restored to some degree. Colors are magnificently bright. Time has no effect on the maiolica, so it remains fresh after 400 years. The influence is clearly visible from Italy and Flanders. This ceramic is intact; it was found during archaeological excavations. Dimensions: Height 14.6 cm - diameter 12.7 cm An exceptional piece that connoisseurs will appreciate.
