Pre-Columbian

Pre-Columbian, Central America, El Salvador, Maya, Copador type, Late Classic Period, ca. 650 to 900 AD. A hand-built pottery bowl of deep form with a planar base, sloped walls, and a thick rim. Highly burnished and decorated with red, orange, and black pigment, the bowl presents a pair of prone 'swimmers' along the bottom of the exterior, their lengthy bodies wearing clothing and seemingly supporting the band of pseudo-glyphs above them. The basin interior features 3 pairs of large glyphs similar to those on the exterior that are enclosed within concentric brown and red rings. Condition: Some surface wear. One stabile line on the wall and a small nick on the hairdress of one of the swimmers ( see pictures ) Provenance: - Art Dealer - Barcelone. - Mark Clark, San Francisco, California, prior to 21 July 1993. - Donald Wonder (1938-2023), California & New Jersey; thence by descent. Due to summer holidays this lot will be sent to the buyers in september Notes: - The piece includes authenticity certificate. - The piece will include spanish export license for the European Union. - If the piece goes outside the European Union a new export license will be requested by us, This process can take beteen 1 and 2 months.
