PRE-COLUMBIAN CHIMU DOUBLE-CHAMBERED WHISTLING VESSEL

Ca. AD 1470 - 1534 > A double-chambered pottery vessel, with two rounded chambers joined at the base and by a horizontal bridge. One chamber has an open spout, while the other is surmounted by a small figure. Some double-chambered Andean vessels were designed to whistle as displaced air passed through a concealed sound mechanism when the vessel was tilted or liquid moved between chambers. This brought sound, imagery and the handling of liquids together in a single object. > > Size: 210mm x 170mm; Weight: 520g > Provenance: Ex. Private German Collection of O. St., since 1980s. > >
