PRE-COLUMBIAN CUPISNIQUE CERAMIC STIRRUP-SPOUT VESSEL

Ca. 800 - 400 BC > A Cupisnique dark ceramic stirrup-spout vessel with a low rounded body and a broad arched handle supporting a cylindrical spout. Contrasting smooth and textured fields divide the exterior. Cupisnique ceramics belong to an early artistic tradition of Peru's north coast. Their carefully finished dark surfaces, sculptural bodies and stirrup spouts turned containers into visually powerful objects. > For similar see: The Walters Art Museum, accession number 48.2848. > Size: 195mm x 135mm; Weight: 490g > Provenance: Ex.
