Precious Belle Époque Ring with Burmese Ruby & Diamonds, c. 1905

A radiant gemstone forms the centerpiece of this Belle Époque ring. It is an exquisite, pink-red ruby from the legendary site of Burma - the most famous region of origin for rubies. Weighing around three quarters of a carat, the stone owes its intense color exclusively to nature. No treatment was detected during the gemmological examination. Only the artful cutting of the gemstone enhances its luminous color. The ring showcases the ruby in a frame of diamonds. Two glittering old-cut diamonds sit in line with the ruby, curved ring shoulders with further, smaller diamonds lead over to the ring band, while delicate openings make the gemstones appear to float and give the ring the look of textile lace. Fine prongs hold the stones in place: gold sets the ruby, while platinum lets the diamonds shine. The ring band is made from yellow gold. This elegant ring design is typical of jewellery from the Belle Époque, the heyday of art and culture at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, which united Europe in beauty one last time. We discovered the ring in Cologne. It is in excellent condition and comes with an independent certificate confirming the quality of the ruby and the other materials.
