Precious ring with large Siamese ruby and diamonds, made by Cartier, circa 2005

The workshops of the Maison Cartier create pieces of jewellery of very different kinds. There are the famous, large series, Trinity, Love and Juste un Clou, which are produced in large numbers and are available around the world. There are the precious, annually changing collections, which are produced in smaller, but equally globally available editions. And there are one-off pieces, made to customer specifications. Here, in this exclusive area, the world of jewellery corresponds to the world of fashion, haute jloaillerie corresponds to haute couture. This ring is one such piece, designed and created at the customer's request. This is indicated by the hallmark "Monture Cartier" on the inside of the ring. The previous owners had already purchased the ruby in St. Moritz in the 1980s for DM 125,000 at the time. In the early 2000s, Cartier then created a ring for the ruby, initially as a design and then, in consultation with the previous owners, the ring itself. It is therefore a unique piece and a real jewel at the same time. The ring is accompanied by an independent appraisal that confirms the quality of the ruby. It is a stone from Thailand, the former Siam. The ruby in an antique oval cushion shape has a magnificent, intense color, it is very clear, uniformly red and shines out of itself. The six carée-cut diamonds that accompany it on the ring shoulders form a kind of stage against which the ruby can shine. The contrast between the round shape of the ruby and the square diamonds is very beautiful: they lead on to the rounder ring band and at the same time give the ring a certain tension: it is large, powerful, precious and at the same time reminiscent of the fine designs of Art Déco, in its straight lines and staggered, architectural form. The ring is signed and comes with the appraisal shown and the original Cartier case.
