Precious Vintage Gold Earrings with Diamonds & Rubies, c. 1985

Bright red, gleaming gold and brightly sparkling diamonds - this pair of earrings radiates joie de vivre and optimism. The design sets rubies cut into small drops in a curved band, or rather in a large scroll of fine diamonds. The rubies glow in an interesting purple red that goes wonderfully with the warm tone of the slightly reddish gold. Their specific nature, their fine, natural inclusions allow the gemstones to be localized to Thailand. They are accompanied by a total of thirty diamonds with a total weight of approx. 3.00 ct. The stones are graded as rare white to white, with good clarity vsi-si. The fact that the diamonds in this pair are also set in gold, and not in platinum as is so often the case with historical jewellery, is a design idea that is typical of the 1980s. We therefore date the pair to this period, partly due to the sculptural, dynamic design. Successful women in business and society preferred to wear large, body-hugging, professional statement pieces rather than long necklaces or delicate bracelets. The luxury of this jewellery consisted of combining materials of the highest quality, which - as here - were allowed to appear in unusual sizes or multiples. We discovered the pair here in Berlin.
