Precious Vintage Gold Earrings with Sapphires & Diamonds, c. 1985

These earrings have an unusual twist that we have never seen before. They not only feature sparkling small brilliant-cut diamonds and blue sapphires in high-carat gold, but also two large diamonds in a completely unusual cut: we see one brilliant-cut diamond from each side! A brilliant cut diamond? That sounds either not very unusual or somewhat confusing. In fact, a diamond cutter has cut the side view of a brilliant-cut diamond from large, flat diamond roses. It is set in gold in the large pendulum. This creates a modern, very graphic impression. The diamonds are set in yellow gold, a design idea that became fashionable again in the late 1970s and 1980s. The graphic impression and the high-quality workmanship by hand therefore allow us to date the earrings to the 1980s. We discovered the earrings here in Berlin.
