Primitive enigmatic crinoid!!! – extremely rare...

Spectacular crinoid echinoderm of the Crinoidea group. It is probably the species Pareocrinus ljubzovi, although this group has not yet been reviewed in the Fezouata Formation. There are two specimens. There are plate and counterplate. These crinoids preserve with great detail the different parts of the animal and present a very short stalk. The stalk is complete in one of the specimens. This species is extremely rare; very few specimens have been found. The contrast of the fossil with the matrix is spectacular. The extraordinary preservation of the fossils allows observing with all kinds of detail the delicate structures of the enigmatic animal. A specimen worthy of a museum. Plastic stands included. Measurements of Pareocrinus 1: 87 x 30 mm Measurements of Pareocrinus 2: 75 x 30 mm Plate: 317 g; 15 x 10.5 x 2 cm Counterplate: 263 g; 15 x 7 x 2.5 cm The Fezouata Formation quarries, near the Moroccan city of Zagora, are providing a rich and varied record of fossils with extraordinary preservation, to the point that even soft parts or soft-bodied animals are often preserved. This type of preservation is similar, though later in time, to that of the famous Burgess Shale (Canada). These are fossils dating between 480 and 472 million years ago. Then Morocco was an ocean and it was located near the South Pole.
