Spectacular specimens of a primitive sponge Pirania, from the Demospongiae group. The preservation is extraordinary, allowing us to appreciate the delicate sponge tissues, its fusiform shape, and its fine spines. A high-quality specimen. In addition, the slabs contain several specimens of hyoliths, bivalves, and a conulariid. These animals lived attached to the substrate, possibly forming colonies. Specimens with this level of preservation are extremely rare. The contrast between the fossils and the matrix is spectacular. The extraordinary preservation of the fossil allows observing with great detail the morphology and delicate structures of Pirania. The preparation has been extremely laborious, as the fossil is extremely delicate. A specimen worthy of a museum. Largest measurement of Pirania: 22x10 mm Plate 1: 174 g; 9.5 x 9 x 1.5 cm Plate 2: 155 g; 9.5 x 7.5 x 1.5 cm Plastic stands included. The localities of the Fezouata Formation, near the Moroccan town of Zagora, are yielding a rich and varied record of fossils with extraordinary preservation, with soft parts or soft-bodied animals being recorded with some frequency. This type of preservation is similar, though later in time, to that of the famous Burgess Shale (Canada). These are fossils dating from between 480 and 472 million years ago. At that time Morocco was an ocean and situated near the South Pole. Specime
