PULLEY BRACKET Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, Gouro ethnic group 20th century Wood, original patina from use: glossy black, reddish-brown at the corners H. 17.8 cm Provenance: - Former Leslie Sacks Collection, Los Angeles, accession no. 852 Publication: - Native Auction, October 22, 2016, Brussels, no. 35 - *African Art from the Leslie Sacks Collection: Refined Eye, Passionate Heart*, Skira 2013, fig. 142, p. 230 Anthropomorphic loom pulley bracket. The semicircular arch is decorated with geometric designs in its upper section. At the top of a tubular, scarified neck, the oval face appears serene. Keloid scars are visible on the back of the neck. The hairstyle is a bun. The shuttle is made of corozo nut.
