PYRÉNÉES-ATLANTIQUES. PAU. REVOLUTION. 3 Printed documents: - Lot 132

PYRÉNÉES-ATLANTIQUES. PAU. REVOLUTION. 3 Printed documents: “Decision of the Parliament of NAVARRE, pursuant to the order it received from the King (Louis XVI), to proceed to Versailles.” August 14, 1788. In Pau, from the Printing House of P. Daumon, Printer to the King and Parliament; unbound, 8 pages, in-8° + “Speech delivered by the People to the Nobility of the City of Pau, assembled at the convent of the Reverend Capuchin Fathers. ” (1789): Generous patriots! Descendants of the Great Henry! (Henry IV). You, whose forefathers shed their blood to secure a good King on the throne… You are all from Béarn… The fateful moment of slavery is approaching… Let us therefore think only of the most precious good of all: FREEDOM. There is still time: Let the Provincial Assembly be promptly convened; let us seek there the means, if not to slay the monsters devouring the very substance of the poor people, then at least to fight with desperate resolve… When the evil is beyond remedy, we must know, if necessary, how to exterminate the tyrants… One must either languish in chains, gnash one’s teeth in frustration, and fawn over one’s executioner, or detest slavery, abhor tyranny, and take up arms… there is no middle ground: die with glory or live wretched and dishonored. ” 4 pages, in-8° + Speech by Citizen Antoine CONTE, Deputy for the Department of the Basses-Pyrénées to the National Convention, against the draft decree, presented on behalf of the committee, concerning the Case of Louis XVI. » In Paris, from the National Printing Office, 8 pages in-8°.
