R. Scheltens - Coffee spoon (12) - 19th-century silver...

12x antique first-quality sterling silver Apostle spoons, a unique complete set, coming in a suitable case (J.R. Jedeloo, The Hague). Spoon length: 9 cm. Net silver weight: 104 g. Case dimensions: 25.3 cm x 13.5 cm. Total weight including case: 446 g. Silver marks: The 18th-century master mark VB from Deventer is the mark of silversmith Willem Brandenburg (in historical sources also referred to as W. Brandenburg or initiated as WB/VB, since the letters 'V' and 'W' or 'V' and 'B' in old stamps sometimes overlapped or could be read as 'V' in engraving methods). He was active as master silversmith in Deventer from 1742 to 1797. City mark: the Deventer Eagle (the German Imperial Eagle, as Deventer was a historic imperial city). However the spoons are also marked with RS2 (where the S has become illegible due to wear), which is the official master mark of R. Scheltens from Groningen (active late 19th century). He was known for making high-quality Apostle spoons with pseudo-marks of 18th-century smiths to meet the great historical demand. These Apostle spoons do not originate from the 18th century, but they are a very fine, high-quality 19th-century replica set and therefore have historical value. 11 spoons are fully marked; 1 spoon bears only the RS2 mark. The spoons are in good condition. The case shows signs of wear on the outside; otherwise it is fine. Packed well and carefully. Registered/insured shipping. Fast shipping, but pickup is also possible.
