Raak Amsterdam - Giotto Stoppino - Wall lamp - C-1644 - plastic, Glass

Offered, without reserve price, a rare and unusually designed vintage wall lamp, model C-1644, designed by the Italian designer Giotto Stoppino for the renowned Dutch lighting manufacturer Raak Amsterdam. The lamp dates from the 1960s/70s and is a fine example of the progressive design style from the Space Age era. The luminaire is distinguished by its sculptural, abstract form and the characteristic relief in the molded plastic. The combination with the glass reflector provides a atmospheric light diffusion and gives the lamp a strong, almost architectural appearance. The design is therefore not only a functional lighting object, but also a decorative sculpture on the wall. Giotto Stoppino is known for his experimental approach to form, material and functionality. His designs from this period belong to the recognizable international design history of the sixties and seventies. The collaboration with Raak Amsterdam resulted in pronounced luminaires where light and form are central. The C-1644 is today a sought-after model among collectors of vintage lighting and Mid-Century Modern design. Thanks to its striking form and relatively modest dimensions, the lamp is suitable for both private interiors and representative spaces. Dimensions: approx. 20 × 20 × 13 cm The lamp is in very nice condition with small signs of use. Giotto Stoppino (Vigevano, 30 April 1926 – Milan, 23 August 2011) was an Italian architect and designer. He was a pupil of architect Ernesto Nathan Rogers, one of the inspiring representatives of neoliberalism, and worked with architects Vittorio Gregotti and L. Meneghetti (Architetti Associati 1953-1968). Since 1968 he had his own studio, whose intensive activity extended from architecture and urban planning to design: a residence in Cameri, tenancies and an office building in Novara, the headquarters of Banca Popolare di Novara in Bra, buildings on Via Palmanova, Via Cassoni and Via Desiderio in Milan, a building for housing and offices in Lucca, and the textile factory Bossi Spa in Cameri. Since 1960 he was a member of the Association for Industrial Design (ADI) and twice a member of the ADI board 66-68 and 71-73. President of the Association for Industrial Design (ADI) from 1982 to 1984, president of the ICSID '83 International Congress in Milan. Two honorary mentions: the Compasso d'Oro prize in the sixties and seventies, two golden compasses in 1979 and 1989, and since 1970 present in the Museum of Modern Art in New York's permanent collection with the Arteluce 537 lamp, while Sheraton furniture has been part of the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London since 1981. On 12 July 2011 he received the Compasso d'Oro career prize on the occasion of the 22nd edition of the prize.
